While Aliso Beach may be synonymous with Skim Boarding, it is also great for Body Boarding.  There is a good sized community of body boarders that would call Aliso Beach their home away from home.  By the nature of the sport, body boarders love shore break waves and conditions found at Aliso Beach. In many ways, it is relevant to say that the waves at Aliso Beach were tailor made for the sport of body boarding.  This takes nothing away from the amazing skim boarding talent that regularly takes on the waves at Aliso Beach.   Body Boarders don’t care much that the waves at Aliso Beach close out often as the love affair is with the tube ride.  While most of the waves ridden at Aliso close out, there are days when the conditions align perfectly and offer some of the best waves seen in South Laguna Beach.  For those that spend enough time in the area and checking the coves and beaches of South Laguna Beach, perfect waves at Aliso Beach are no myth.  They are a reality.  The waves at Aliso Beach are capable of providing some of the most memorable surf days that body boarders can remember.

There are a couple of  factors in addition to swell, swell direction, wave size and wind direction that sculpt the best waves for body boarding.  Sand has a lot to do with the shape of the waves at Aliso Beach.  Aliso Creek, which outlets on the north end of the beach, carries sand out and places it on the north end of the beach which is advantageous to body boarding.  This process forms sand bars that the waves of Aliso Beach work well with.  This produces a thick, barreling wave that body boarders like to call home.  The second factor is the reef down on the south end.  With the right tide, the right amount of sand, and the right direction south swell, waves reverberate off the reef sending a side wave across the water running perpendicular to the wave.  This bends the waves north on lefts in a way that creates big tubes that body boarders can make it out of .  By far the south end of Aliso Beach produces the best wave for body boarding that the spot has too offer.  When it is working, body boarders in the water are all smiles!
